Remember a time when screens were something you put in your windows – not trance-inducing devices that encourage endless hours of sitting and staring; when you looked outside to see children playing and making up their own stories instead of trying to reach the next “level” in a computer game? Remember when toys were made of wood, metal and fabric instead of just plastic? At the Queen’s Treasures, we aim to bring imaginative play back and to avoid contributing to the flood of plastics in our environment.

These goals become more relevant as electronic games gain a larger share of the toy market each year and the petro-chemical industry introduces more plastics to offset a drop in demand for fossil fuel with the emergence of greener tech. Some of this may seem a bit Henny Penny-ish and perhaps the sky isn’t falling just yet, but more and more research shows we need to be more prudent in how we develop products and in how we consume them for our sake and of the next generation.

But don’t take our word for it. News items like the ones listed below appear on a regular basis:

A recent study by JAMA Pediatrics including children ages 3 to 5 indicates that too much distraction by video screens can hamper the development of emotional reactivity and executive functioning.

An uninhabited island in the Atlantic is inaccessible because it is smothered in plastic garbage.

Technology can certainly be beneficial. It can also be overused or misapplied. If we, as caregivers of children and of the earth, can make wiser choices, perhaps the next generation will have imaginations of such power that they will discover ways of correcting mistakes of the past. To that end, we continue to hope and to believe in the promise of wholesome play.

At The Queen’s Treasures®, we believe that imagination is the key to unlocking a whole new world outside of the digital age we’ve been thrust into. The aim of our products is to help inspire and nourish creative play that begins in a child’s mind so they can grow their imagination and fuel creativity. With toys designed to be memorable, they are lovingly made to be in your family for years to come so that generations from now, that imaginative fun can still flow. Our products are tested to meet or exceed testing standards in the USA, and Canada so that you and your children can play with peace of mind.

Thus, we cordially invite you to enter the great hall and begin perusing our finest treasures, made just for you!
